Off the Wall
Synopsis
An interpretation of Michael Jackson's hit, Off the Wall, using motion graphics. Fast-paced visuals were used to match the rhythm of Michael's iconic song while maintaining cohesiveness through smart transitions and legibility. Adobe After Effects and Illustrator were utilized to make the product with a bit of Photoshop for tweaks. There were a lot of changes made throughout the production. The color choices of blue, yellow, and pink was a result of trying to capture the essence of the late 70's that would soon turn into neon. I really wanted this music video be something anyone can vibe and dance to. The final product captured the upbeat, danceable energy of the song with engaging visuals that resonates with a broad audience.
Styleframes
Establishing the look and color of the kinetic typography video was essential to create the mood. Some of the type has changed during actual animation since ideas change for a better feel.
Animating and Compositing
Glow effect in After Effects was used a lot to give the type a neon look to them. Other types like wall graffiti were also implemented in the wall sections to give more personality.
Post-Production
Connecting lyrics to go from one scene to the next was the most challenging part of this motion graphic. Timing is crucial so a lot of post-production time was refinement with getting lyrics being sung at the right time with the words.
