The Flight of Rebirth

Synopsis

The Flight of Rebirth is a 3D-animated music video that blends striking visuals with a simple yet meaningful narrative. Designed to flow seamlessly with the rhythm and emotion of the song, the video uses intentional camera movement, careful planning, and multiple revisions to create an immersive experience. The first half unfolds in stark black and white, depicting a desolate wasteland where a single blue butterfly stands out as a symbol of hope. As the music progresses, the story shifts toward renewal: an army of blue butterflies revives the land, restoring nature and reintroducing vibrant reds, greens, yellows, and earthy tones. The transition from emptiness to life leaves the viewer with a sense of relief and rebirth.

Storyboarding

Planning was intense on this music video since timing with the song needed to match the visuals shown on screen. Even if the storyboard was well thought out, changes were still made during production for efficiency or a better idea was implemented due to time.

3D Animation

Animating the music video in 3D proved to be easy on some parts and complex in other areas. Parts where a pack of blue butterflies were present and roaming about the landscape needed well placed cameras to show the scale of the environment.

Post-Production

The cryptomatte AOV, provided in Cinema 4D, made the blue butterfly in the first half of the video easy to separate from the black and white environment. Motion blur and giving a glow to the butterfly pack gave more visual interest when they’re present.
